Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Irritable Bowel Syndrome – IBS
Do you suffer from bloating? diarrhoea? constipation? excessive wind? pain after eating? feelings of incomplete evacuation after passing a bowel motion? general tummy discomfort?
If you have been investigated for coeliac disease and bowel inflammation and tests are negative it is likely this will be described as IBS. The good news is that diet changes make an enormous difference for most people with IBS.
Low FODMAP diet
NutritionWorks dietitians have helped many people successfully use the low FODMAP diet to treat IBS and SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth), then to work through the re-challenging process to identify problem foods. The re-challenging process is an important step to ensure the diet doesn’t remain more restricted than necessary.
Breath Testing
Nicky has been trained in carrying out Hydrogen and Methane Breath Testing to aid in diagnosing IBS and SIBO. This can be carried out in NutritionWorks’ Wanaka clinic on behalf of Dr Michael Schultz, a Gastroenterologist from Dunedin.
Breath testing is a useful tool to help identify food intolerances that may be contributing to gastrointestinal symptoms of IBS and SIBO.
Please contact Nicky for more information regarding breath testing.
